Reasons why I didn’t like War Horse
- The dialogue is awful and unrealistic because each sentence spoken is supposed to be a great, moving sentiment. Ruins any emotional build up.
- I thought it was a parody at first. That’s how funny an American’s view of Yorkshire or wherever it was meant to be is.
- It’s a bit predictable.
- I’m not really an ‘animal person’ so I don’t really get films about humans bonds with animals.
Reasons why I did like War Horse
- The cinematography was good
- You can’t hate a film about a boy and his horse
Here’s my The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo rant in print version
“The art of film can only really exist through a highly organized betrayal of reality.”
François Truffaut, born 80 years ago today.

Got a first on my essay on 500 Days of Summer. Expect to see it here soon.
So, I’ve been keeping a list of all the films I’ve seen for over a year now and this year, I plan to make it a little more “me” by doing this to stills of the films I shall see for this year.
I’m also planning to do an 11 Films of 2011 list soon (I’m only waiting for Shame, Take Shelter, and Hugo releases before I make up my mind about it) because that is just one of the useless things that I feel is crucially significant in my life.
In the mean time, I’ll include some of the recent films I’ve seen that I really liked watching. I also believe A Separation is one of the best films I’ve seen from last year. And Weekend, too.
Oh, by the way, what’s your favorite film from 2011?
Watching this and scaring myself something silly because Hitchcock creates so much suspense. For Christmas I received the Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection Box Set so I can scare myself silly lots and lots.
Interestingly, the guy who commented that I was a ‘fucking moron’ has deleted his post once shown my reasons why he was a fucking moron. I may follow him.

Film Rant- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I’m not the first to rant about Hollywood remakes of foreign language films, and I definitely won’t be the last. Let me draw your attention to a certain case study: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s not that I think The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a bad film or that it is worse than it’s Swedish predecessor .It’s just the same. Rooney Mara’s performance as Lisbeth is equal to Noomi Rapace’s and Daniel Craig’s to Michael Nyqvist- even the settings and dialogue look and sound like they have been directed lifted from the original. I shouldn’t be feeling this cheated by this repetition because the clue is in the word ‘re-make’, but Fincher promised that this would definitely be putting his stamp on the film and I failed to see that at all. The defence from Hollywood is that they truly believe that they are doing the foreign film director’s a favour because after seeing the remake people may then watch the original. What makes this argument ridiculous is that this particular film is a crime thriller, so why would anyone watch exactly the same film again when they knew who the murderer was, just in a different language? Or with actors who aren’t Swedish and can’t successfully hold the accent trying to do just that? Audiences are not stupid and can manage to both read subtitles- $10,000,000 worth of people coped and they shouldn’t have to pay to see the same movie once again.
